David Amess, 20, whose father of the same name is MP for Southend West in Essex, denied a charge of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm on the first day of his trial at Chelmsford Crown Court. His son who was named after him was sentenced to jail for four years in 2005 in the case of smashing a bottle of champagne over the head of a man in the nightclub. A member of the Conservative Party, Sir David Amess served as MP for Basildon from 1983 to 1997 and for Southend West from 1997 to 2021. Sir David, 69, was married with four daughters and a son.
